Intranet Solution Increases Efficiency and Accuracy for Occupational Medicine Practice
A
multi-location client was in growth mode, and their Occupational
Medicine Practice was bringing in more employers, each with
different needs for pre-employment screenings, annual exams,
drug screenings, worker’s compensation and preventative
health services. The Occupational Medicine group would
fax new employee protocols to each of the office locations
to be placed in binder for reference.
Often
times, through fax errors, illegibility and other routing
challenges, new protocols didn’t make it into the reference
binder before employee appointments. The result was
screening/documentation errors, and sometimes even providing
services that could would not be reimbursed by employers or insurance.
QPS
recommended that an electronic solution be implemented that
would enable practice staff to access the most current employee
protocols in real time. QPS created an intranet for all the office locations. Occupational Medicine
is a large component of the intranet’s functionality.
All of the employer protocols are posted as pdf documents,
and all Injury/Illness Report Forms, Consent for Testing,
Occupational Health History, OSHA and Medical Evaluation forms
are available for the staff to use. Every practice workstations’
browsers default to the intranet, and each functional area
of the practice is accessible from the home page.
The
result has been fewer errors, greater compliance and stronger collection rates for
the Occupational Medicine Practice, as well as several additional
benefits to the practice as a whole. As this client
continues to grow and launch new locations or acquire additional
practices, their Intranet is easily updated for each new office,
ensuring consistent, quality care from every location.
The new intranet has also reduced the amount of paper practice
locations consume, and the amount of storage space necessary
to keep documentation organized.
